Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Officer Ryan Quilatan said on Thursday they have received reports from concerned citizens about vandalism being committed inside the facility in Canticum village.

“Based on initial investigations, only patients who were found positive for coronavirus have stayed in the isolation center,” Quilatan said in a phone interview.

Local officials and policemen found some broken bed frames and fixtures, soiled mattresses, and heavily trashed rooms.

The isolation facility in Canticum has 10 beds for virus carriers with mild symptoms and asymptomatic. The area is just two kilometers away from the town center.

Quilatan said they already advised the village chief to formally report the incident to the police.

He asked town residents who will be isolated in the municipal isolation facility to respect government properties and always maintain its cleanliness.

As of Sept. 21, the town has 22 coronavirus disease (COVID-19) patients, including eight recoveries and one death.
