ZAMBOANGA CITY – The military discovered a factory for improvised explosive devices (IEDs) while conducting combat clearing operations in a remote village in Ampatuan town in Maguindanao on Friday, September 25.

Armed Force of the Philippines- Western Mindanao Command (AFP-WestMinCom) Commander Lt Gen Corleto Vinluan, Jr. said  troops of the First Mechanized Infantry Battalion discovered an IED factory in Sitio Talpok, Barangay Salman in Ampatuan town  Maguindanao at noon Friday.

The soldiers recovered from the IED factory one round unexploded 105 mm and 60 mm ordnance, , several IED components (fuses, switches, blasting caps, shrapnel, and the like), and propaganda materials.

Troops immediately coordinated with the Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) team for proper dispositive action.

Joint Task Force (JTF) Central Commander Maj. Gen. Juvymax Uy said “the accomplishment was attributable to the peace-loving people of Ampatuan who continuously support us in our campaign against terrorism.”

Vinluan said the terrorists continue to desperately sow terror due to their incapability to counter our operating troops, thus, “I enjoin the public to remain vigilant and immediately report suspicious individuals and items in their vicinity.”

“Let us work hand-in-hand to thwart any form of terrorist-initiated violence in the communities,” he added.
