“We see this as the only way we can reduce the number of cases,” said Mayor Jerry Treñas in a press conference.

Covered by the total lockdown were Barangays Aguinaldo Lapaz, Bolilao, Barrio Obrero, Calumpang, Concepcion, Lapuz Sur, Mansaya, MH del Pilar in Jaro district, Punong Lapuz, Ortiz, San Isidro in Jaro district, Simon Ledesma, and Sooc Arevalo.

“We need to do drastic measures to protect the Ilonggo community,” added Treñas after releasing Executive Order No. 148.

Dr. Roland Jay Fortuna, focal person of the Iloilo City Health Office for COVID-19, said that they had to forego implementing the surgical lockdown in specific areas of a barangay when more than three COVID-19 cases have been recorded in a span of days.

For instance, Barangay Simon Ledesma in Jaro district recorded 19 COVID-19 cases for a six-day period, including three new cases for the past three days.

Barangay Ortiz in City Proper district recorded seven COVID-19 cases, including six new cases for the past three days.

While the total lockdown is supposed to end by 6 p.m. of September 27, Treñas said it may be longer depending on the situation in these barangays.
