Nearly 15,000 traffic violators were caught through the City of Manila’s Non-Contact Apprehension Program (NCAP) from the time the project was implemented on December 7, 2020 until January 22, 2021.

The Manila Traffic and Parking Bureau (MTPB) said of the 14,880 traffic violators, notice of violations were sent by courier to 6,570 erring motorists by courier.

The violations committed were mostly obstruction of the pedestrian lane, disregarding lane markings, and disregarding traffic lights.

The MTPB said a lot of motorists start their vehicles even before the traffic light turns green.

The Manila city government began implementing the NCAP last month to identify and penalize traffic violators in a safer way.

At least 36 “highly efficient” cameras, that operate around the clock, were installed in selected areas around the city.
