DAVAO CITY – At least 79 families here were evacuated to higher grounds Monday evening (Feb. 15) after flash floods hit their respective homes caused by rivers that overflowed due to heavy downpour that lasted about two hours.
 
The Davao City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (CDRRMO) reported that the 79 families composed of around 150 individuals were preemptively evacuated to higher grounds on their respective areas for their safety. None was reported injured or missing. 
 
Areas affected by the flash flood were barangays Matina Aplaya and Matina Pangi, Talomo, Panacan, Sirawan in Toril, and Ilang in Tibungco.The evacuees have returned home at dawn after the floodwater subsided.
 
All evacuees at Matina Barangay Hall, Matina Pangi Elementary School, Mercedes Phase 2 Gym, Sirawan Gym, Amparo Village Gym, and Lourdes Parish Bangkal were properly assisted.
 
The Davao City Government ordered the pre-emptive evacuation due to the fast-rising water level at Bunawan River, Talomo River, Matina Pangi River, and Lipadas River that flowed through the affected areas.
