Valenzuela City Mayor Rex Gatchalian’s nine-year service as the city’s local chief executive will end in 2022. But what will be his plans after that?

As Gatchalian believes that he “will still have probably more things to do in the city,” running as Valenzuela’s representative in Congress might be his next move.

“Maybe as their congressional representative, which I used to be for the 1st district (from 2007 to 2013),” Gatchalian bared at a Kapihan sa Manila Bay forum when asked about his political plans.

“I don’t want to be coy about it but to be very honest, all my time and effort is going to this COVID rollout or COVID response. I haven’t really thought about politics,” he added.

But for him, “definitely, staying in the local realm” or being “back to Congress.” His brother, Sen. Sherwin Gatchalian, is “up for re-election.”
